Why we disagree? (2/3)

Listen to Audio Speech:

At The World’s Parliament of Religions
Chicago, 15th September 1893

Swami Vivekananda I will tell you a little story. You have heard the eloquent speaker who has just finished say, “Let us cease from abusing each other,” and he was very sorry that there should be always so much variance.

But I think I should tell you a story which would illustrate the cause of this variance. A frog lived in a well. It had lived there for a long time. It was born there and brought up there, and yet was a little, small frog. Of course, the evolutionists were not there then to tell us whether the frog lost its eyes or not, but, for our story’s sake, we must take it for granted that it had its eyes, and that it every day cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists. In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. Well, one day another flog that lived in the sea came and fell into the well.
“Where are you form?”
“I am from the sea.”
“The sea! How big is that? Is it as big as my well?” and he took a leap from one side of the well to the other.
“My friend,” said the frog of the sea, “how do you compare the sea with your little well?”
Then the frog took another leap and asked, “Is your sea so big?”
“What nonsense you speak, to compare the sea with your well!”
“Well, then,” said the frog of the well, “nothing can be bigger than my well; there can be nothing bigger than this; this fellow is a liar, so turn him out.”

That has been the difficulty all the while.

I am a Hindu. I am sitting in my own little well and thinking that the whole world is my little well. The Christian sits in his little well and thinks the whole world is his well. The Mohammedan sits in his little well and thinks that is the whole world. l have to thank you of America for the great attempt you are making to break down the barriers of this little world of ours, and hope that, in the future, the Lord will help you to accomplish your purpose.

i am totally agree with the person who has commented above. There is really very admirable and appreicable message is hidden. this is a right time to come out from our conservative thoughts. now we need to have versatile thinking and should be open minds to accepts and give respect to others religion. This recording might be fake or whatever but we should concentrate on the message that swamiji wanted to deliver.
So this is Humble request from my side to all the readers that inspite of arguing or qubbling on that authenticity of the recording, its better to get that correct message and take this attempt forward intiated at america.

    Hi
I am totally agree with Administrator points of view. Its doesn’t matter whose voice is this. now a days peace will come only when we all get one. and it will happen when we forgot, to which religion I belongs. As this speech says come forward and forget what you are, what group you follow and leave these barriers.

The only country in the world that will cry out that a Rahim, a Robert and a Ram seeketh the same Lord is India. No other nation teaches you that respecting your own faith does not translate to disrespecting another being’s! Be proud to be an Indian, be proud to be a refined human who is educated right from birth by a mother and motherland that there exists a beutiful world beyond the barriers of the “wells”.

It is good to see that we take great pride in our nation and indeed our culture and our traditions are worthy of such pride, but I see that in these comments we miss the basic point of Swamiji’s message. If we say that India is the only country which provides a platform for various religion is it not similar to the frog in the well who thought his well was the biggest place that existed. We need to open our mind not just to accept different religion but also different culture, the idea is to learn from and respect not just every other religion but also every other culture.

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the planet earth, the speech by Swamiji is authentic or not is imaterial but what matters is his sermon to the world, which is now plagued with varius disease including the disease of religious fanatism. He had a vision and that vision is all paths lead to the one GOD we call by different names.

If all can understand this very simple idea than there would be no religious differences among the people of this planet. Respect each others faith as your respect your own.

    May GOD bless you.

The speech is inspirable and the most important he is the first indian who speaks in this Parliament. And to my surprise, till 2005, no one from India(If I am not mistaken) was there to make such a speech like him. I appeal all our brothers and systers try to hear the speech and apply what you can in your life. All should be proud to be hindu.

There needs no proof than this so called speach to ascertain that Vivekananda and his motley crowd of admirers are the most narrow minded, naivete people in the entire world. Indeed they are all dwelling in the deep horrible pit. They have a long way to go to understand truth and eternity. Vivekananda has utterly failed to realize that God does not personally involve in any Religion or their rituals or religous activities. God Himself is Truth. Truth is not in any ‘ism’ or ‘ity’. Vivekananda is one of the multitude of pervert and ignorant people whose mind is programmed and conditioned from birth to believe that the small, utterly untrue, darkest world, the mother of all lies and darkness, called Hinduism is a great religion. I pity not Vivekananda but the motley crowd who are carried over by this emotion charged, baseless speach that he made. You all have to rise to the level of perceiving every person in the world as a Human Being which alone is the only true identity

Dude, you need to see the sea. Probably the speech was addressed to people like you. He never advocated popular Hinduism - he was a Hindu outcast, he was a rebel. He just took Hinduism as a ground and preached personal spirituality.

“You all have to rise to the level of perceiving every person in the world as a Human Being which alone is the only true identity”. Didn’t he say “Each soul is divine”? You fuckin ignorant fool, you need to educate yourself more about him before you make your idiotic comments!

    hey yoderbrown buddy….
    U R totally out of ur mind….!
VIVEKANANDA never ever tried his wits to popularise Hinduism nor grow his team. Its his preachings about the TRUTH n divine perception that lured people’s mind n called off a silent revolution to a healthy living, gettin rid of the ill beliefs in the society n a particular religion….not only Hinduism.
We do see such ill beliefs in every other RELIGION, n u can’t give room for ur personal motives on a platform like this. This doesn’t make sense….
Learn bout HIM r jus skip commenting without proper understanding….
Better go thru it again n think before acting moronic :)
